IronManche87
Hi folks! I am currently in the process of swapping a dana 30 non CAD axle onto the truck and noticed passenger side leaking and figure I might as well replace the outer seals. I can't seem to find a good write up on replacing the outer axle seals and Was hoping one of y'all could either provide a link or a basic write up possibly? Thank y'all in advance! IronManche87
Outer axle seals? Dana 30 non-CAD? I apologize for my lack of knowledge of axle parts and components but am I wrong about the dana 30 non CAD having outer seals? Is it just the inner seals? 8valvehero
D30s only have inner seals. Rear axles have outer seals. Seals are cheap so buy 2 of each in case you mess one up. Outer seals are available aftermarket to keep mud out of the housing, but there is debate on if theres any benefit. AlloyUSA makes some nice greasable ones. IMO they are not worth the investment on most rigs. A buddy to help stabilize the seal & driver as you hammer it in is very helpful. 🤘🏿

Will pick them up tomorrow and regrettably attempt to replace them! Might as well do both sides! Thanks all for the clarification! IronManche87
8valvehero do you happen to have a part number for the non CAD dana 30 seals? Are they different sizes like the CAD or are they the same seal for each side? Sent from my LGMS210 using Tapatalk

A 36mm socket seats around the seal perfectly and gives you something to tap on to drive the seal into place.

gogmorgo
For the sake of pedantry there are aftermarket axle end seals you can get for the d30. Ostensibly they're to keep water and mud out of the tubes to keep the inner seals in better shape, but I've seen people try using them to contain an inner seal leak, with varying degrees of success. I recommend changing the inner seals.
