Amccutc21
I recently brought my '89 comanche out of it winter hibernation and have been using it as a daily while my ram is at the body shop. The inspection sticker has been dead since December of 17, so in preparation of getting a new sticker, I replaced both front and rear passenger turn signal bulbs as they we're burnt out. While they ARE working now, I have some strange things going on inside the cab when I use my right signal that did not happen prior to doing this. First, if I get in my truck and press the brake pedal before starting the truck (or even putting a key in the ignition) I get a buzzing noise that only lasts as long as the brake is being held in, and promptly stops when it is let back out. This is really the least of the problem, but I thought it was note-worthy and might pertain to the issue in general. Secondly, If I apply my right signal while driving I get an unusual sound, unlike that of when I apply my left signal. Its hard to explain, but its a faster sound and also has more of a buzz to it. While the right signal is engaged, MY CLOCK AND RADIO flash intermittently with the signal. Lastly, if I apply my brakes while driving all interior lighting (such as radio, clock, etc) go dark, and appear only once the brake pedal is let out. Sometimes taking longer than others depending on how long the brake has been pressed. This is throwing me for a loop and proving to be rather annoying while driving. TIA for any and all input. coolwind57
Check all of your bulbs again and ensure the gunk (old bulb grease) is cleaned out. I have very similar oddball things happen and it was all because of a bad bulb connection. I would've gambled my life that it was some crossed wires or a more complex issue like that. I couldn't believe how simple it was to correct such crazy problems by replacing a bulb and cleaning a socket. It'll be worth your time to start by pulling and inspecting bulbs and cleaning socket connections. Good luck, man.
dvitha
Note I have had loud noisy going bad relays. Is it a manual? if it is does your master clutch or hose leak? They can leak and it falls right on the fuse box. This can cause all kind of things to happen. As above said good to take every bulb out and clean it's contacts and the connector. Inspect the wires around the bulbs for signs of wire breaks. My bet is something near the fuse box or in that area is not right.
Eagle
As noted, check the sockets. The XJ/MJ sockets are known to go bad, resulting in the turn signals trying to seek a ground through the parking light side of the circuit. Since you have things happening when you step on the brake peddle, start at the rear. Also check the point where the taillights ground to the body. RustyRodder
All of the above. Also- this may sound stupid- make sure all the bulbs are CORRECT. I had a turn signal issue similar to yours, replaced my sockets, cleaned the grounds, etc- turned out one bulb was wrong for the application. It worked, it just caused the issues (I thank the PO for that one).
