Even if you don't get the pinion angle spot on it's okay. You can always throw in a pair of wedges to fine tune the angle after it's welded.

I'm not a big fan of wedges. Better to set it right once.

Of course it is. But accidents do happen and quality steel wedges are a fix.

When I installed my D44 from another MJ, then lifted it a bit, the pinion angle turned out to be a couple of degrees off. So I slapped some 2* steel wedges in to get the D44 snout back where it belonged. Wedges are fine for a small correction, but not for anything over 4* or more...

Just be sure the wedges are steel.

Some years ago, before Paragon Offroad Park in Pennsylvania closed down, NAXJA-NAC had one of our annual trailfest gatherings there. One of the guys had an XJ that he lifted in the rear with aluminum blocks. The block had been in place for awhile and, of course, Pennsylvania is in the snow belt, where they use salt on the roads in winter. Out on the trail, his lift blocks literally disintegrated. It wasn't pretty, but thank God it was at very low speed on a trail and not at 65 MPH on the way home after the event.

Steel, and pinned to the leaf pack, sure.  Otherwise, no, I've done my time with that stuff.  Never again.
