I never thought such a simple part could cause so much headache...

Has anyone replaced their shift cable with any of the available aftermarket options and actually had a successful result? I've installed 3 all from different manufacturers, 2 had to be modified to fit in the steering column bracket (pioneer fit great there), but all 3 had the clips fail on the adjustment assembly leaving me unable to access "3"and "2-1"... I'm at wits end with these things, $80ish a piece and all 3 have been garbage.

Anyway does anyone have any suggestions on a possible alternative or even an OEM cable lying around for a column shift MJ. Just extremely frustrated...

Looks like I'm gonna try an XJ cable, theyre plenty available.....ill post back with results

XJ and MJ column shift cables are the same.

How are you adjusting the shift cables to have three of them break? I've never replaced one yet, but have adjusted my existing cable with no problems.

I think he's talking about a floor shift XJ cable. Bet it'll be too short, the floor shift cable comes out at the base of the trans tunnel and the column shift cable comes out at the top D/S firewall.

It is too short. The column shift cable is ~57" long.

Adjusting is no sweat, the problem is the mount not being wide enough to click underneath the column and the adjuster clip at the trans not holding adjustment after it's set.

The omix ada cable is just a rebadged ATP also....
