Jackrabbit41
I jumped into my jeep this morning and started her up. It idles and runs at a very high rpm. It wasn't doing this the day before but I did wash the engine bay but I drove it the rest of that day and didn't ave a problem. What's my problem? What do I do? Thanks y'all! The jeeps been so good lately I guess I'm due for a problem
cruiser54
Got the TPS wet. Probably toast, but you can try spraying out the connectors with electronics cleaner.
omega_rugal
remove the air intake hose and cover the "squareish" hole in one of the corners, see if the rpms go down, if so clean the idle stepper motor, that lil bastard loves to get stuck... or check for any vacuum leaks... Skorpyo
When I had my old 88 XJ it came with a high idle problem that wasn't only in park, it idles high enough that in drive it would go 25mph without my touching the gas! For me it turned out to be the TPS, but there are a number of things it could be. I found a pretty good link here: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/high-idles-only-operating-temperature-34199/#post389882 that covers a broad array of possible causes. Best of luck and let us know what it turns out to be.
