Swampy
I have done some reading here on the forum about rusty's 4.5" lift kit for the mj's. It seems like the lift that most go with from them. What I haven't heard much about is the 6.5" long arm kit that they also sell. Is it not worth it for the $1600+ price tag? It seems like most people run the rusty's 4.5" kit and piece together their own 6.5" kits. Can someone give a review or an opinion on this kit? 88whitemanche
A lot of people dislike rustys products because they don't last (breakage) or their customer service towards warranty... then there's your die hard rustys off-road fans...it can go both ways your better off piecing together your front end lift than trying to buying a whole kit... And/or at least get the (4.5") rear leaf springs from rusty's off-road or get some custom made ones from general spring
Skorpyo
I'll be honest with you in that I'm nearing completion of the 4.5" kit for my MJ right now and my XJ has rusty coils. That being said I have a positive opinion of Rusty's suspension parts and a high opinion of his skid plates. I also have his steering box brace on my XJ. Of his suspension products, they are slightly more affordable and hold up relatively well over time. Application is what is most important, if you're building an off-road rig, and you want the best, you might be better served with other products. Rusty's is a middle to upper end suspension manufacturer whose main issue, as I see it, is that longevity of ride height can't be expected beyond 2-3 years. That being said I think the price point makes up for it and you get your moneys worth for a few years of use. I've bashed the snot out of his XJ engine, tranny and T-case skids on the XJ and they're holding up great but I don't plan on ordering skids for MJ as it won't be wheeled. You could certainly do worse than Rusty's products and yes, you could do better, but it's really a preference of the individual and your long term plans. Just my .02. Swampy
I have pieced together my own 6.5" kit with fixed lower short arms and adjustable uppers with parts from rusty's and iron rock offroad. It came out to about $1500 ( this is with steering upgrades, and all the perches for soa in the rear) The longarms themselves from Rusty's comes out to $830 for the crossmember and upper and lower arms. I don't know if I should go with my kit, or save the extra bit and just go longarms
88whitemanche
Save a little bit more and buy long arms, just went long arm on mine and the ride quality is amazing compared to short arms... i haven't been able to flex it yet, still gotta install my boostwerks transfer case linkage and install the front driveshaft
Swampy
I think another thing I like about the longarm kit from rusty's is that the cross member is all bolt in, no welding required according to the website. guess the steering upgrade may have to wait a bit, or I can get them at the same time. shelbyluvv
Look at another company. cRusty is a crook and his $#!& is garbage. Cavfab has a nice long arm upgrade. If you do go with that cRusty junk don't come back here bitching about it when the joints fail in 3 months. Iron Rock is up there with them as well. HOrnbrod
^^ This. Because they are close, I've been to Rusty's a couple of times to pick up new factory JKU take-off parts from the modified Wranglers they build. Those are the only parts I'd buy from Rustys because they didn't manufacture them.
