ComancheQueen88
Does the year of the XJ matter if I want to replace a heater core for my 88 Comanche?
MuddFoot
Buy a new heater core. I bought the copper and brass over the all aluminum one. I ordered mine off ebay Sent from my Z981 using Tapatalk
Tex06
Shouldn't. It's a bear of a job though... set aside a whole weekend. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
Eagle
Does the year of the XJ matter if I want to replace a heater core for my 88 Comanche? No, because using a used heater core would be a huge mistake. The newest XJ core you can find will be 16 years old. I've seen heater cores fail in less than 16 years, so you'd be doing all the work to install a part that could fail next week. Buy a new one. Minuit
Yeah, buy new. At that age heater cores are a time bomb. A friend of mine had the heater core pop on their 12 year old car. It's a fairly straightforward job but there's a lot of screws and bolts to keep track of for a novice. The dash and HVAC box has to come completely out. If you have A/C it needs to be evacuated. Keep track of how everything went together and you'll be fine. As far as heater cores go, it's a pretty easy one.
kook911
Search google and you will find a write up on how to remove your dash and the HAVC box. Most of the removal is easy. The hardest part for me was the Philips head screws next to the windshield. They are a mother to get out. But once they are out you are good.
