speedometer questions 4wd conversion

Recommended Posts

Looking to do the AW4/231 swap with the more abundant HO cherokee parts that I have available in my area. My question is using 91-96 parts how do go about staying with the mechanical speedometer? Is this something I would have to use? http://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/airtex/wells,5S4691,speed+sensor,10634

Or is there another solution that I am overlooking? Appreciate the help.

I think you can use the regular cable driven 87-90 set up. I believe the 91- up has the electronic sender attached to the the regular speedometer gear.

Correct.

Just remove the electronic sender and install the mechanical sender. Keep in mind that the 4WD speedo sender goes in the transfer case, so you may need a longer speedo cable.

I have a 94 NP231 with a cable speedo in my 88 MJ.  I just took the gear and assembly out of my old t-case and clocked it properly, by the numbers, and hooked my 88 cable to it (by accident actually, I didn't even know any better) and it works fine.

Imgur has been completely hassle free for me.
