Tires and wheels

Recommended Posts

Need some advice on tires and wheels. I don't know much. Found a deal of:

35'' tires they are (Dick Cepek Extreme Country 35x12.50x15) on 15x8 level 8 tracker wheels. Bolt pattern is 5x5 will those fit the MJ's bolt pattern? Anyone ever have these kinds of tires?

Price was 1200 for 5 tires and 5 rims. For 35's I was going to jump on it if they fit. Thanks for the help.

The bolt pattern on stock XJ/MJ axles is 5x4.5 so you would need adapters, which would push the wheels out further.

If I had to venture a guess on the TPMS sensors I assume it's some sort of air pressure sensor.

Most adapters are 1.25" so your backspacing would go from the stock 5.25-5.5" to 4.0-4.25". Quality adapters to go from the stock 5x4.5 bolt pattern to the 5x5 of those rims will cost about $200 so figure that into the cost of buying those wheels.

Thanks for the help! Pushing the wheel out would add backspacing correct?

No.

Backspacing is the offset from the wheel mounting surface inward toward the centerline of the vehicle. Backspacing is a function of the wheel. Introducing a spacer moves the wheel mounting surface outboard by the depth of the spacer. In practical terms, it has the effect of reducing the backspacing relative to the vehicle.

His effective backspacing would be even less, because the tires he's looking at are on aftermarket rims that probably only have 4 to 4-1/2 inches of backspacing to begin with.
