That said, are you saying all the flashers work outside the vehicle just fine, with or without headlights on?

87MJTIM
I had a similar issue several years ago. Flashers worked. No turn signal or brake lights. I first replaced brake light switch. Did not fix it. I studied the wiring diagram and found the common connection for the two was the turn signal directional switch. Replaced it and the problem was fixed. I have not had the problem since. http://www.morris4x4center.com/turn-signal-switch-directional-56002011.html

87MJTIM
Most auto parts stores let you rent tools. The steering wheel puller is usually one of them.

87MJTIM
Hazard and turn signals are on different fuses........... He said is hazards work, but turn does not. I found that when I had similar issues. The signal switch was the common unit for both the TURN and BRAKE.
cruiser54
Hazard and turn signals are on different fuses........... He said is hazards work, but turn does not. I found that when I had similar issues. The signal switch was the common unit for both the TURN and BRAKE. Yet they're on different fuses........ Don't think he should check that? One fuse is Turn B/U and the other is Haz/Stop.

cruiser54
True. Start with the easy stuff first. I just went out to the garage and pulled the Turn/BU fuse on my 87 MJ. Hazards worked with or without key On and turn signals didn't work at all......
