NorthWoods
So a few weeks back i totally shredded a front wheel bearing and wrecked the stub shaft. When this happened, my brake indicator light on the dash came on. I just installed some junkyard shafts with 760 u joints and new hub bearing assembly. Calipers work, rotors and pads are good. I checked fuses and unplugged the wire at the proportioning valve and reattached it. Brake fluid level is good. Wondering if anyone might know of a way to clear up this issue. Incommando
Just for giggles you might pull up on the parking brake pedal to make sure that isn't the issue.
Green Mesa XJ
You might check the switch at the proportion valve or master cylinder not sure where it'd be. I had a car with this problem after a rear axel swap never did solve it ended up trading it in. Far as I could tell all the brake hydraulics were good and bled out. Other place to check it as mentioned in the previous post is where the parking brake switch is maybe it's shorted. NorthWoods
Checked that already. Light goes out if I pull the wire at the proportion valve. Goes back on when wire is reconnected.

I don't know the exact solution for your problem, but according to the owner's manual, the illumination of that light is like the modern day equivalent to the check engine light. This means that if your brake indicator is still illuminated, that something is wrong. I would take it to a competent mechanic and get it checked. Hopes this helps. Let me know how your project progresses.
Green Mesa XJ
It should mean there is a big issue in the brake system. Old school theory is a switch can get stuck, stamping on the breaks maybe free it up. Bad switch Or another BIG problem somewhere in the system. It should indicate a lack of pressure in the system. I'd go over it looking for a error of some sort. The Chrysler I had this same kind of problem with I never did find what caused it, replaced everything from wheel cylinders to brake master cylinder and booster. I was about to try a new proportioning valve and switch next but it was fated no to be my problem any longer. Minuit
Just for poop and laughter, try pressing the brake pedal REALLY hard. That's supposed to reset the warning switch.
Eagle
Just for poop and laughter, try pressing the brake pedal REALLY hard. That's supposed to reset the warning switch. Correct. That wire on the distribution block is for the brake system warning light. When one circuit (front or rear) loses pressure, there's a shuttle valve that slides inside the distribution block to close that switch. The reset procedure is to stomp on the brakes HARD and sharply a couple of times to reset the shuttle valve to the center position.

Took 1 good stomp on the brakes to do it. Never would reset until I did that.
NorthWoods
Really standing on the brake pedal I think 4 times has reset the light. Brakes felt very good regardless of light being on. Had a feeling that there was something which would reset that indicator. Thank you.
zomeizter
4 firm applications of the brakes did the trick on my oldie but goodie, but still haven't figured out what caused the light illumination in the first place. The brakes are flawless, maybe just a fluke...
