parkglenn
1. Working through a fuel pump issue on a 1988 Jeep Comanche project. I can't seem to find the exact OE replacement fuel pump for this truck? It has been sitting for a few years during a rebuild project. We replaced the fuel pump when we first got the truck from my sons grandfather and had it running pretty good but she has sat too long and the fuel tank was open at the fill while we repainted. We removed the tank and tried to clean out the bad fuel and wanted to replace the fuel pump before re-installing. The pump that we were sold from AutoZone is not even close to the current assembly? We have another pump they sell on order but not having a lot of confidence at this time? Any ideas on a good source for the correct pump? Thinking of also replacing the tank as it is looking pretty rough on the inside. 2. We have lost a piece of trim on the front end that sits just below the JEEP emblem and just above the plastic grill, runs the entire length of front end above both headlight assemblies, any ideas on a source for this what be much appreciated as well. mikekaz1
1. no known full sending unit replacement available. but you can replace just the pump with a generic if necessary. 2. not reproduced either to my knowledge, gotta find a junkyard pre-91 xj/mj or upgrade to a 91+header
parkglenn
Thanks at mikekaz1, I am trying to find the correct replacement pump but they all seem to have a little or a lot of variation and do not match up to the original sending unit cage at all. appreciate the feedback. 87MJTIM
You can replace the "pump" for your MJ with a Bosch pump. HOWEVER, the sending unit is unique to the MJ and NLA (no longer available). Here is the write up on changing the pump. http://comancheclub.com/topic/45860-bosch-aftermarket-fuel-pump-installation/
parkglenn
Thanks at 87MJTIM, I am looking for the Bosch unit and appreciate the link, I did a search before posting in the MJ tech forum but missed that post, good information and should get me on the way. Kind Regards.
FrankTheDog
The Bosch unit will not look like the original, it will be smaller. It should come with an assortmant of rubber and plastic parts that will adapt it to the original pump cage.
