badchad
I have a 87 comanche I can't get the fan switch to work, the blower works, is there a relay some were...
Pete M
Does it only work on high? Does the switch do anything at all? How did you test the fan?
Eagle
No relay, but there is a bank of resistors under the dash that controls fan speed. The resistors, I think, only drop the voltage for the slow and intermediate speeds. High speed doesn't use a resistor and should work even if the other two won't. badchad
The fan switch does nothing at all, I jumped the blower to the battery and it came on, a friend said it is ether fan resister or the fan switch, the fuse is good, its become a pain in the @$$
Pete M
It is possible that the switch needs cleaning or went bad, but see if you have voltage at the resistor pack. It's abvoe the passenger's feet and needs like a 7 or 8 mm wrench to remove the screws to pull it out. Be careful, if electricity is flowing through the resistors, it gets very VERY hot. beaterjeep
I had the same problem with my 88. A friend of mine who does wiring as a side hobby ran a wire from under the hood into the cab to the back of the controls. If only I knew exactly what he did, I might be able to help ya out on it. carnuck
My '87's fusebox melted around the fan fuse (due to brake fluid from the clutch master dripping into it and corroding the terminals)
