MJ Hammer
Hello to you all, I just joined the forum as past week at last I got my first Comanche, it is a 1990 Pioneer 2WD, manual and short bed that is in pretty good condition, I looked for a 4WD for a long time without luck so I decided to get this one. Now here comes the opportunity to get a 1988 4x4 Pioneer long bed that is in not so good shape, lots of parts missing and the ones that are present are so bad that restoration would take a lot of money and time, so my question to you is could I get to strip the 4x4 parts from the 1988 long bed and swap them into the 1990 short bed, most of them at least? The nice 1990 is a manual and the bad 1988 is now manual but the owner is pretty sure it was an automatic before, by the way the 4x4 is not working right now, I think the front shaft is missing, both are 4.0l 6cyl. What do you think, can I get a sweet deal getting the 1988 for parts or should I keep looking? Any advice will be kindly appreciated...
Wiggilez
the 88 will probably have a ba 10 instad of an AX15 if that matters to you.

The rear drive shafts will need to be adjusted to proper length. You have a short bed vs. long bed AND 2wd vs. 4wd. They all have diff DS lengths. If the 88 was originally auto, then the axles are probably 3.55. The 90 with a 4.0 5 spd would have originally had 3.07. So, you will need BOTH axles from the 4wd. The BA10 is not bad for most street use. If you are looking to take it off road, then consider upgrading to an AX15. If you upgrade, you will need the matching tcase with the AX15. Or, you will need to change the tcase input shaft. (The BA10 takes a 21 spline tcase, the AX15 takes a 23 spline tcase.) Additionally, you should get the shift linkage for the tcase. It is diff from the one used for the BA10 tcase shifter. There may be other issues to address that I cannot recall.

MJ Hammer
OK, thanks to you all, it seems a bit more complicated than I expected, I appreciate the advice
FrankTheDog
If it was originally auto it may have been converted already to AX15. Check to see if it is internal or external slave bellhousing.
