Master7122 Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Hi I'm new to comanche club so if this has been answered already i apoligize but I put in a new ignition switch it causes my Comanche to not start. This is he 2nd new one I put in and same results. Old ignition switch let's me start the jeep but the new ones don't, I have no wipers, turn signals, radio, cigarette lighter or horn and everywhere I read says to replace ignition switch. Its a 1987 Comanche with the 4.0 auto 4x4
sinkrun Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Sounds like somethings not lined up or out of place. These lots of you tube videos on taking apart GM steering colums which your is I think.
HOrnbrod Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 The ignition switches are different for the tilt and non-tilt columns. What column did you have and what's the p/n of the switch you used?
HOrnbrod Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Okay - for your 87 4.0 w. column shift and tilt, the Jeep parts manual calls for ignition switch p/n J3250575 J3250575. This ignition switch is pictured on the below link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Mopar-J3250575-Switch-/191668821651?hash=item2ca05a1e93:g:ryQAAOSwMmBV1ff3&vxp=mtr If your CS83 switch looks exactly like this, it's supposedly correct. If there are visible differences, you will need switch CS84. Did you align the rod? Ignition switch alignment:Fig. 2: Ignition switch rod positioningOn non-tilt columns:Move the ignition switch slider to the OFF unlocked position (move the slider all the way down, then back two clicks). The remote rod hole in the ignition switch slider should now be centered.Insert the remote rod in the ignition switch slider hole and install the ignition switch on the steering column. Tighten the attaching screws to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).On tilt columns:Insert the ignition key in the lock cylinder and turn the cylinder to the OFF unlocked position.Move the ignition switch downward to eliminate any slack and tighten the attaching screws to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).Install any components removed for switch access.
fiatslug87 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) For a column shift tilt column, the ignition switch factory PN is J3250575. EDIT: Damn, too late once again! Edited October 12, 2016 by fiatslug87
