th3m4nm4rcu5 Posted August 12, 2016 Share Posted August 12, 2016 okay my clutch went to the floor, and was leaking from the bellhousing. aparently its the internal slave cylinder. so after much cursing, and frustration i pulled the trans and repalced the slave cylinder. the trans is the pigeot ba15 5 speed 2wd got it all put back together and went to bleed the clutch, and its pissing out the bell housing again! i put in the slave cylinder, put a retainer ring on it, where i took the old one off. put everything back together the way it should have been. there was a plastic retainer on the new slave cylinder, which was keeping the new part compressed. i took this off before i installed it, the old one did not have it. put in on the shaft, and everything went well, whats wrong? is there a special way to bleed the thing? my buddy did the same thing, replaced his in his 4 cylinder mj. and his is leaking from the bell housing still also. but he said he forgot to take that plastic retainer off the new part that keeps it compressed. any ideas whats wrong? am i bleeding it wrong? help please its my only vehicle Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

MJanky Posted August 12, 2016 Share Posted August 12, 2016 Your real problem is that you have the "puke goat" trans because you are stuck with the infernal internal slave cylinder which are a notorious PITA. It is common to replace them just to have them leak again. Most that can convert to the external slave cylinder once they go through it but the Peugeot trans never had an external one to use for parts to do a swap. Swapping to a different trans is possible but it is rather involved not to mention you have to source all the parts to do it. In the meantime I hate to be the bearer of bad news but from what I've heard about the internal slaves you're likely going to have to do it over. My advice is to see what the best made slave cylinder available is and make sure you do everything exactly right...like using new o rings and washers etc where people recommend it. I'd tell you if I knew but I haven't had to do this yet on my MJ. When the day comes I'll probably convert to external, but I have a 4 cylinder with the AX4 so it's an option. victorgallas Posted August 13, 2016 Share Posted August 13, 2016 Guys, I have the ax4 four speed one. Just out a brand new clutch kit with a new luk slave. I left the straps on it slduring install. However after putting it all together I went to bleed the clutch and my pedal is loose from the top to the middle, then you can feel that is the point it starts to build pressure. I can't get the clutch to disengage fully when the pedal is pressed. also has a new master cylinder. Any advice on how to bleed these ax4 with Ibternal slaves better? th3m4nm4rcu5 Posted August 14, 2016 Author Share Posted August 14, 2016 thanks guys for the help, well i re installed a newer, more expensive slave cylinder, and now i hvae great clutch pressure. started the truck to go for a test drive, and heard a clanking noice and rattling bad sounds from the truck, like the started didnt return home and was stuck in the fly wheel or somthing. so i pulled the starter, and it had returned home, and the flywheel and starter teeth looked okay. also the gear shifter appears to be in neutral, but i cannot get it into gear. any gears for that matter. however i noticed i hit the clutch and the truck rolls. and i push on the truck and the fans turning, so its in gear. and i remember when it happened i was turning in the house, down shifted to 2nd, and boom the clutch went out. so i coasted in the driveway in 2nd, so I'm assuming its stuck in 2nd gear now. whats up with that, i re installled the shifter properly, are my shift forks out of alignment? or somthing like that. th3m4nm4rcu5 Posted August 14, 2016 Author Share Posted August 14, 2016 also by the way guys, the 2nd time i had to pull the trans, me and my buddy pulled it in 38 mins, and the reinstall in about 1 hour. not too bad, just frustrating. and i did take my straps off the slave cylinder before installing. however this time when i bled the clutch, i did 5 slow pumps of the pedal and then cracked the bleeder, and repeated. before i was pumping that pedal fast and hard as $#!& many times, then cracking. idk if that had anything to do with my prior problem or not. but i read u have to be gentle bleeding the system. that clutch is so tight now its will wear you out. MJanky Posted August 14, 2016 Share Posted August 14, 2016 What kind of shape was the clutch in when you replaced the slave cylinder? I wouldn't expect you'd have left it as is if it was marginal while you were in there. But one never knows. And if there is no fluid loss and the clutch pedal works I wouldn't suspect the cylinders. Are you aware of the Peugeot tranny's craptastic reputation? Horror stories abound of them failing even under light use. But if it was working fine before you changed the slave cylinder it would be darn strange timing. I'd think there'd be some indication it was going out on you, but then I've read horrible things about it. Check the actual transmission case. Sometimes there are visible signs on those when they fail...sometimes gears actually come out. Look for discoloration too. It might be obvious if it has failed. I'm just poking around. the clutch was great before the slave cylinder started pouring fluid. i got great clutch pressure now. but its like stuck in gear, and they shifter is like in the neutral position... idk what to do Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
MJanky Posted August 14, 2016 Share Posted August 14, 2016 I wish there was a quick fix for you. You can try the easy stuff and you might get lucky. Check to make sure you tightened all the tranny bolts, if you left any loose it might not be aligned and would hang up. Drain the fluid and check for metal pieces in it, that may tell the tale. Dip a magnet into it to be thorough. You can also try rocking the truck if it is really stuck in gear it might break loose whatever is jammed in it. Try moving the shifter while rocking it. It's the part about the noises you say it made that is of concern. If you have broken pieces in it like a gear tooth or something you might be able to clear it and have it work but you can be sure there will be more trouble on the way. LaComanche88 Posted August 29, 2016 Share Posted August 29, 2016 Remove the 2 straps holding compressing it down U install your hydraulic throw out bearing (slave cylinder) bolt everything on now make sure ur lines are securely connect to the master cylinder and while your at it check your master cylinder for any leaks sometimes by ur clutch pedal... now to bleed it have someone help you, and fill your master cylinder and pump ur clutch pedal 3 times and hold it down on the 3rd while someone is down under open the bleeder screw while having a hose connected to it and the other end of the hose inside a clear water bottle with brake fluid open the screw and.your gonna see alot of bubbles come out, close the bleeder screw don't release the clutch pedal until it is closed and check your.master cylinder after to make sure it always has fluid after every 3 pumps..and just reapeat the process till you see no more air bubbles and the clutch pedal stiffens up hope it helps any questions.let me know Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
