Jtrux Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Just like the title says, how far? I installed a new pump and have it fairly lined up but I figured there was a specific measurement to ensure it's properly placed onto the pump relative to something.
fiatslug87 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 As long as the belt tracks properly between the water pump and PS pulleys you're OK. That being said, from the 90 FSM:
Jtrux Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 I should have checked it before pulling but overlooked it. The snout of the pump is recessed into the pulled probably 3/8". Just wasn't sure if it was supposed to be flush or not.
xjrev10 Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 The last one I did, the pulley was flush with the shaft.
Rockfrog Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 I lined mine up by eye, been fine for the last two years. But, I have a 97 pump with the old 88 pulley (the later pulley was hammered). Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
ParadiseMJ Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 A few years ago I replaced the pumps on my MJ and my XJ, same day, same pump. The 90 XJ pulley shaft was slightly recessed, The 88 MJ shaft was flush. Both metal pulleys, one was solid, the other had spokes of a sort. As fiatslug says, as long as it's lined up with two other pulleys, you should be OK.
Jtrux Posted June 12, 2016 Author Posted June 12, 2016 Thanks for the pics. I'll snap a pic of where mine ended up soon.
