mvusse Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 So, after being parked for 3 weeks I finally towed one of my trucks out to the shop, put it on jack stands and crawled under it to see what is going on. Turns out (ALL!!!) bolts holding the transmission to the engine are missing. I know they are 3/8, standard thread, but does anybody know how long they need to be? How many are there? 4 or 5? Been too long since I have had them separated to remember. This is an AW4 behind a 4.0.
gogmorgo Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Got a 4.0/aw4 bolted together out in the yard. I'll pull the bolts out if I remember and have time tomorrow. While you're in there, make sure the flexplate hasn't cracked due to the misalignment.
mvusse Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 I have the inspection cover off. Checking the flex plate will be easy enough. I'm more worried about the connection between the transmission and torque converter, as well as the torque converter seal.
gogmorgo Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I had the same thing happen a couple years back. Torque converter and seals were fine, but 5000 miles later the flexplate was in two pieces. 2000 miles after that I developed a bad bottom end knock, which I'm not convinced was unrelated.
Pete M Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I do belive we have a bolt thread in here. might have what you need http://comancheclub.com/topic/48710-diy-projects-writeups-master-search-index/
mvusse Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 No help. Some of the links in it are dead, btw.
Pete M Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I know. it's a slow process trying to organize it all. :(
