RynoMJ
I'm swapping in an aw4 into my 88. I removed the pilot hearing from the back of the engine. Does the bushing that the bearing sits in need to come out? It doesn't look like it can.
Pete M
does the swap thread in the DIY forum mention anything about it?
RynoMJ
Not sure which one you're referring to but I haven't been able to find any information on it.

xjrev10
Pack it full of heavy grease and jam something in there. The hydraulic pressure will push it out. Look in a Haynes manual. It will show you how.
Pete M
be sure to wear goggles while doing that.
RynoMJ
I've heard of the grease for the pilot bearing but that will work for the collar too?
RynoMJ
Well day 3 still zero profess I tried stu's way drilling two holes and chiseling it out no luck. There's just no separation between the collar and the shaft.
Pete M
have you tried a pilot bushing puller?
RynoMJ
Tried a blind hole puller there's no edge for the teeth to grab. The bearing/bushing is out its the collar around the bearing I'm working on.
Pete M
dang. if there's no edge, then that plan won't work. :( is it too late for the grease trick? not sure where you drilled the holes. as long as the fit of the device you're hammering in is tight enough, the hydraulic force should be able to dislodge it. RynoMJ
Unfortunately I don't thinkshe hydrolic method will work anymore. Just going to get the transmission up in there and see where I'm at. I read on a thread somewhere that someone put an aw4 into an 87 without removing the collar.
