I have done a lot of searching on the WJ Dana 30 and all I come up with is the brake conversion. I have used Ford 70s Dana 44 and rear Ford 9inch axles in most of the Jeeps I have built. But for my 88 Comanche Eliminator 2WD conversion to 4WD I am going with a Ford 8.8 rear which is shorter than the stock rear axle in MJ & XJs so will be needing to run wheel spacers. And the WJ Dana 30 is just a tad wider than stock MJ & XJ Dana 30. For my question why not swap the front WJ Dana 30 axle for the front MJ Dana 30? Question 2 with the wheel spacers being 5on4.5 to 5.5 and running the WJ D30 the tires should be in line with each other right?

It's not a simple bolt in job. The coil, track bar and control arm mounts are in different places on a WJ. If you go long arm and custom track bar and drag link you can make it work.

 

The lug pattern on a WJ is 5x5 not 5x5.5

 

If you are doing the front why not do the rear 44A as well? Put a good truss and solid cover on it and it will be plenty strong.

The 90-99.5 XJ hubs (2.133)are about the same height as the WJs (2.118), if you wanted to retain 5 X 4.5 BC. I think the WJ is about 5 inches wider. I am in the process of doing the WJ brake swap. Hope to get me knuckles welded with the spacer. FIY, someone on the Jeep Form has done a 17 inch rim brake upgrade with '11-15 Durango calipers and Ford Mustang GT rotors, and using '84-89 Jeep XJ/MJ 4WD knuckles with 00'-01 XJ hubs.

 

So far on mine, I have the WJ knuckles, the JKS spacers, Timken '00-01 XJ bearing hubs, lower WJ ball joints (Mevotech TTX). Alloy USA upper ball joints, Akebono calipers and brakets, and '07-08 Dodge Nitro (Jeep Liberty ??) rotors. I don't have to trim down the OD of the hub bearing or redrill the bolt holes.
