Jess
So I've got this fresh air intake water leak under the cowl on my 89 MJ. I've read every post on the internet I can find on ways to fix it and I've tried a few methods but it's not working. I don't feel like cutting the cowl open and after discovering this awesome thread on removing the Dash, I'm just going to do it and replace the seal properly. It will be a good excuse to Dynamat the firewall anyways. So while I have the heater box out I'm thinking about replacing the Heater Core and the AC Evaporator. I'm looking at parts online and I'm wondering if anyone's had experience with any of these brands? Spectra Premium 93024 Heater Core APDI 9010185 A/C Heater Core OSC Cooling Products 98024 Diften 685-A0209-X01 - New A/C AC Evaporator GPD 4711435 FOUR SEASONS I see a lot of Four Seasons stuff on RockAuto but I haven't ordered anything yet. It seems a tad more expensive than most of the other brands but I have no idea if it's worth it. Any other brands you might recommend? 500 MJ
I've put two of the Spectra Premium heater cores in over the years in different Jeeps. Never had an issue with either one of them. The OEM heater core has a foam around it that is usually melted pretty bad, I think the new Spectra ones come with another piece of foam. Or maybe I used some of the stuff used to seal off a window AC unit for your house. Either way it was the same lighter density foam, not as dense as the old OEM stuff. It also worked fine in both Jeeps. I have always removed AC systems. Too much hassle for me, I just drive with the windows down. No advise for new parts for you there... Minuit
I just (less than a week ago) put a Spectra heater core in mine. The foam "seal" it comes with is pretty cheesy compared to the old one, but the old one was ruined and soaked with coolant anyway. Other than that, it doesn't leak for now so I don't guess I can complain. I bought mine from Rockauto and it was packed horribly (in fact, I had to get Rockauto to send me another one as the first one I bought got bent during shipping). I had to make the screw hole on the bracket that connects the tubes bigger so that the factory screw would fit. It only uses that screw hole, whereas the factory core also has a screw at the bottom. I'm not impressed with the part but at least my heater works now. Typical aftermarket junk.

big66440
I was in the exact same situation a few months ago and as far as the AC evaporator core was concerned on my Comanche the 4 seasons one fit into the heater box but there was no way of installing the capillary tube/ thermostat so I sent it back and got the GPD one and it didn't fit in the heater box and the position of the tubes was nowhere near the original one which would have required the foam gasket that seals the box to the firewall to be severely deformed or I would have had to modify it Big Time. I finally decided to not install my evap core and either wait till I found a good NOS piece ( Seems very unlikely by now) or pull one from a JY, take it to a radiator shop to clean and test it and throw it in there,,,,, or I may just end up deleting the whole freakin thing who knows?
