It was just an illusion in the picture... It showed up as straight as an arrow.

Now to figure out if it needs the reinforcement plates or not.

THANKS!!!

What reinforcement plates are you speaking of?  Do you mean the spacers that go between the frame rails and the hitch for the bolts?

I have one on my truck and a spare Drawtite hitch also, so may be able to help.  Just let me know the question.

Ours is a long bed, not sure that it needs the spacers.

It is supposed to have plates that bolt thru the 2 lower holes, 90 degree bend at the top... Possibly to bolt to the bottom of the frame.

Jim, the Drawtite hitch you bought (p/n 75014) was designed for the 86 MJ longbeds. When the 87's came out with the shortbed MJs, the design was changed and the Drawtite hitch p/n changed to 75021. The 75021 fits both long and short bed models. I have the 75021 on my 91 longbed, and used the spacers that came with it. Looking at pics between the two models, you can see that the side plates are cut very differently. I'm guessing there are some differences between the 86 LWB and later model LWB rear frames, or Drawtite simply changed the design to accommodate both models.    :dunno:

Just to follow up on John's and Don's comments, here are pics of 75021 hitch. You can see the spacers peeking out in the second picture.

the spacers are just to space it out from the bumper bracket because it has a hump in it

this picture barely shows it.

hump in the bumper bracket.

hitches that i build...

this is something that i havent come across while selling my hitches... are the bolt holes different on the 86s? i use 3 frame bolts and the shackle bolt....

Did you ever get this hitch mounted up Jim?

Yea, I am going to pull it back off and elongate the 2 rear most holes tho.

I am just going to use it to carry a dirt bike... So it will be fine.

And yes, it is made for the bumper brackets without the bulge.
