LaComanche88
I have my 88 jeep Comanche with a cold air intake by spectre witch goes connected from the firewall to the throttle body and it gets its air from the hood cowl I would clean my filter regularly but since I moved and always on parked on dirt now it got dirty 3xs as fast and it looked like mud was builed on the filter idk cuz of water, dirt or what got in and ever since it shakes a lot I hear like a whistle/humming sound from the throttle body and it wants to shut off after I rev it and doesn't keep a steady idle ... I already cleaned the filter and cold air intake but it still has the same problem can anyone help please?

Minuit
The filter in your hood cowl is not the correct setup for the truck. It does not provide any performance benefits. It only sucks up dirt. The stock air filter is behind the driver side headlight and does not get dirty quickly. It is better in every way than the cowl intake you have now. You need to find a stock air filter setup and use that instead. The idle air control valve is on the front of the throttle body. It probably is very dirty and is not letting your engine idle. Remove it and clean it VERY CAREFULLY and your idle should improve.
ParadiseMJ
The filter in your hood cowl is not the correct setup for the truck. It does not provide any performance benefits. I totally agree with this. I've had it both ways on both Jeeps. The best and quietest intake is the stock set-up IMHO. Keeps excess dirt/mud/water from getting slung onto the filter...and possibly into the intake. If you're planning on crossing a lot of creeks, rivers in your truck, I'd go with a modified, removable snorkel (mostly because I think snorkels look pretty lame driving around town, but then again that's my own preference). The rectangular port on the stock intake right behind the headlight bucket IS a cold air intake, and really provides plenty of flow. If you want to modify the stock box (there are some good threads on this mod on NAXJA, JeepForum, etc. but then you're back to sucking in hot/warm air. (for Calif. trucks you need to have either the stock set-up or a 50 state CARB approved intake with proper grommets or it will play hell passing smog)
