Blue88Comanche
I have no actual experience with those engines, transmissions, or transfer-cases, but from what i have gathered..... :typing: :crossfingers: the 2.8 v6 is unreliable and has a bolt in swap with a later camaro (3.4L ?) the AX5 has a good rep the NP207 can be replaced with a NP231

mnkyboy
AX4/AX5 is pretty good for being a light duty transmission,i beat the crap out of my AX4 wheeling on 33s and it never let me down. I've since swapped in an AX15 which is much stronger but it's a project getting it in there.
Wiggilez
I can atest to the ax5 being a good trany. I ran out of oil in mine once driving down the hwy.got home toped and it been fine with no issues ever since.
zomeizter
well now I know I got at least one good component on my 86, the ax5. As far as the 2.8 goes, I grew up with these damn engines and I know that if you maintain them well, they will last a good long life. Mine is a fairly "fresh" 2.8L off a late 80s Camaro. If and when it dies, I will go 3.4L or 5.7L SBC...
