The EAS build "Lucy"

Recommended Posts

long time no post. Having had two jeeps on government salary was not helping my comanche build but i managed to sell my cherokee for 200% profit so new things are coming. just finished up my 8.8 i need to get the brake situation all figured out and it'll be ready to throw under the jeep. Most recently found my bed sides are rusting through so instead of trying to salvage it, i thinking i'll cage the rear. something i had always wanted to do and now i can make it happen!  after i deciding that I'm going to get rid of the bed. i finally finished my tailgate restoration. haha ironic...

finished the 8.8 with exception of the brake lines. still a little confused on about how to do it. just a matter of more research. I've decided to go up to 8 inches, for now at least. if i hate it ill be going back to 6.5. Today i ordered coils, SYE, double cardan driveshaft, bilstein shocks and the wheel spacers for the 8.8. everything i'll need to get it running right once the 8.8 is in.

I was looking lastnight at truggy bed/flatbed options. I think if you were able to pull off a clean usable bed with a rollcage/hybrid exo incorporated it would be clean. The expanded metal is a great idea

wow, great examples i was leaning more towards caging the rear and trying to keep the same body lines. i'll end up flipping a coin for it hahaha. Tacoma Wa? i'll be back in that area again in 6 months I'm originally from kirkland wa

Ya tacompton is where I'm at, right next door to fortlewis. I get the luxury of hearing the planes lol. Not very fond of it but I travel for work and am home a limited time. You going to have your mj when your here? Hard to tell if.ill be around but hit me up and we'll grab a beer atleast. Is this more along your idea? Same comanche, tailgate is from a cj5. This one needs the expanded metal atleast, or to have the openings filled. I need to move so I can have nice things and build a shop

I had a busy weekend. I spent all of the veterans day weekend working on the jeep! started out with just taking off the bumper to repaint it. I tend to use it more for a place to set tools then recovery. it had gotten pretty badly scratched up and was starting to rust so I took it off sanded it down and resprayed the whole thing! i loved to look of the paint i used so i decided to do the same thing with my steering and truss on the Dana 30.

i think it turned out very clean. Thursday finally came around and my verrrrrrry delayed FedEx truck finally showed up with my parts! Coils, Shocks, Brake Lines, Wheels Spacers, SYE, and my tires. everything i needed to get my 8.8 in. I decided to take the easy way around and hopped on a forklift to flex out the comanche enough that i could pull out the old coils and swap in the 8 inch! only took about 5 minutes after i got the old shocks off. In went the bilsteins and the front end was done for the day. I still need to get around to ajusting my track bar. That sounds like next weekends job though   :rotf:

That tread is nice huh?  :laughin:  :laughin:  :laughin:  :laughin:

Next morning i was out and working on the jeep by 7 bending my solid lines for the 8.8!

went much smoother than i had though and again i jacked up the rear of the jeep with the forklifts unbolted my Turdy5 lifted it out and rolled in the 8.8. very simple swap and went in exremely east. I'm just glad everything lined up as i didnt do any test fits on the 8.8 but it all worked out!

still have to get my tires mounted up

and the SYE in but my truck will be down for a couple weeks while my driveshaft is made! There's a little too make rake in the rear for me. its hard to tell in pictures but its very apparent. I'm think either XJ shackles or stock leaf springs.

Tires made it on! I'll get to the slip yoke eliminator this week hopefully Monday or Tuesday then I'll be with out a jeep for a week or two waiting on the drive shaft to come in. If yet that I'll be working on armor I'm think I'll cut out the rockers and weld in some
Sliders in there place. I want to get all rust off ASAP. Still can't decide what I'm doing with the bed... clocks ticking down 6 months until I EAS and start beating on her.

Nice Build I'm on Lejeune too, Ive built a few Jeeps since ive been Stationed here, my favorite one i let go of due to my divorce and its rolling around base somewhere and the kid doesnt want to sell it back, it was a Black 99 two door 5 speed, Blees three link OTK steering OTA track bar, 8.25 rear with disk brake conversion, besides my being cheap and not having it actually painted it was a super clean Jeep, Now I'm working on a 90 Comanche(97+ swap) puting a fuel injected 4.0 in it with all the OBD2, full 97 interior and exterior conversions as well, mines staying 2wd though and i lowered it 2 inches i want a nice little street queen for when I'm building my 01 Xj that I'm dailying right now until i can talk the guy into selling me my 2 door back, get ahold of me if you ever need a place to work i live out in town and have tons of tools and am always tinkering around and building Jeeps

well i very quickly outgrew the solid diff covers. they look nice but you just can't beat ruff stuff! got their 8.8 cover this thing is BEEF!!

I really liked the way it came so i took some 800 grit sand paper and just polished her up a bit before i put some UV resistant clear coat on! I love the added strength and the appearance is great too! (yes i know my shock is almost off)  :rotf:

How's the glare on the hood with your pod lights, and any closer pics?

the glare from the hood isnt bad at all. What really gets me is i mounted my antenna right there so i get a TON of glare of the coil. It acts like a mirror and blasts me in the face haha  i don't have anymore pictures what exactly do you want to see though? I will gladly take some for you

Just went through the whole thread. Awesome looking Jeep. Just about to start my build and am scouring for ideas.

Flat bed is on my dream list, winch bumper, upgrade steering, adjustable steering column, bucket seats.

3rd jeep, very excited looking at yours.

D30 up front on 35s right now?

yeah i'm getting close to caging the rear as well! yes i have HP dana 30 out of a 96 cherokee, that has been trussed, and sleeved and its pushing the 35s fine for now. I'm looking for a 44 from a rubicon TJ but theyre hard to come by where I am. That a good start on your comanche though! I can't wait to see how it comes along!

My 89 had that same pretty blue color. Debating it on my 1990 (that or sand...).

to be honest I hated the color when I first got it. It has definitely grown on me I'm going to get it re painted the same factory color. I feel that though I had a 87 XJ I had painted sand and loved the look of it! also really love the deep forest green :hmm:  too many choices
