Jackrabbit41
So I just got a 95 2 door manual 4x4 xj for 650$. Runs and drives good. 228000 miles. I want to pull the buckets, ax15, and the motor and make it a 4.7l (maybe just rebuild it and swap it). The doors aren't electric so I don't want those. What else should I yank out? It has a Dana 44 but I already have a ford 8.8. Should I do the motor swap? And any suggestions on pulling the tranny? I've never done anything like this so suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks Pictures coming soon. I'm still driving back with my dad right now.
Eagle
I'm having trouble understanding your goal. Would you be rebuilding the motor to put back in the XJ, or to transplant into some other vehicle? NEVER discard an XJ/MJ Dana 44 axle.
64 Cheyenne
Think this is his complete donor for his MJ. Doors and rear quarter glass can be sold, 2dr stuff getting harder to find. Keep save everything you MIGHT need for and after your swap. Sell rest of shell for scrap.
Jackrabbit41
I would like to put on some new parts on the ax15 before I get it in like a new slave cylinder and main seal. Is there a rebuild kit that anyone would recommend? Or any other ideas?
1987Comanche
What to keep off the parts XJ depends on what storage space you have and how long you're willing to keep it. Any possibility of doing the 4.0HO swap? If so keep the ECU, wiring, sensors, etc. As the '95 has a non-disco front axle that would be worth swapping. Sell the D44 and any body parts that are in decent shape to minimize your cost.

Should I just pull out this Dana 30 from my cherokee and build it a little while it's out and out 4.10s in it and then swap it in?
Crash
Yes, most shops will charge less with axle dis-assembled to gear it. As all they have to do is toss it on a bench or stand and put it together. Consider keeping the D44 for a future project, if you can. Or sell it for a reasonable price to a member who wants/needs it. Make sure you have the E-torx bits for the upper bell housing bolts. And I recommend putting those in a pile of bolts and replacing those with grade 8 hex bolts. Ya it was smooth sailing until the very last bolt, the inverted torx, stripped. I took a brake after that and I'm going to get at it again soon. Probably just going to weld a nut in it and do it that way
FrankTheDog
When removing the bell housing bolts always start with the top two torx bolts first. There will be less tension on them then.
