dkmcgowan
This is an 89 40L Renix... I am tracking down a low/rough idle issue and went to tighten my intake/exhaust manifold bolts. I noticed what appears to be a stud missing? It's the lower bolt hole on the front exhaust manifold.
rearview
One of those known jeep defects. I ran mine for 20 years without the stud . It tighens the exhaust side, so you won't find a vacum issue, Easy to get out once you have a direct straight line access to the broken stud. Not machine grade metal. dkmcgowan
I don't seem to have an exhaust leak... Seems like I would have to take everything out to get at it, going to leave it for now.

87Warrior
My guess is the stud is not missing, it is snapped off. My 86 is in the same boat.
Strokermjcomanche
You can use a bolt instead of the stud without removing anything as long as the stud is not broken off in the head . Use something to stick inside the hole or a mirror on a stick to see if it's missing or broke .
reubj
Mine had been twisted off flush with the block. Eventually the gasket deteriorated and caused an exhaust leak. When I replaced the gasket I drilled it out and re-tapped it for a new bolt.
