glundblad
I can't help but notice how expense NOS tail lights are selling for on Ebay. I cannot emphasize how "unnoticeable" they are once they are installed. You would not notice the difference between a good used set and a new set. I put nos taillights on mine a couple years ago and I never notice they are there. If you can steal a NOS pair, I would certainly do it but a good used set at a JY for $25 is just as good. I would really encourage you to save your money. This has been a public service announcement.
sinkrun
I would love to find a good used set for $25.00 or even restoreable set. I want to try sanding and clear coating a set ,mine look bad on a truck with new paint. don't want to risk painting a set until i have a extra set to try. Then theres the restored ones on ebay for 350.00 s set.
Minuit
IMO the point of NOS parts isn't that they look any different (you can clean up an old pair to look 95% as good as an NOS pair), but just the fact that you have a basically brand new example of a very desirable part. That and some people can justify throwing that much money at an MJ.
91Pioneer
I've restored my lights using lens polish and had a NOS one for a while... up close NOS is very noticeable, mainly in the clear reverse part. The red stuff all polishes up nice so yeah not necessarily worth the $$ unless you're doing a full resto.

The main thing is cleaning the inside for the reverse lens taking it apart works best, but if that's too big of challenge just get creative with skinny brush and hose.
