found my gremlin

Recommended Posts

Put another notch on Cruiser's belt! Took this connector apart and now I know why my directionals don't work. This connector controls all the lights on both sides right? The Gremlins ate 4 of the pins :fs1:  so I have to replace both sides of the connector what is the best way  to go about this ?.... cut and splice new one in? Do I have to remove the black heat jacket? any idea if this is a junkyard part only? Or could I just remove the connector and wire the wires together directly and bypass the connector?

You could wire them directly ... Soldering works best ... But adding a connector make repair works less painful. Grab a weatherpak connector from so place like Napa, or scavenge a good connector from the JY. Or as long as it has some good pins, you could rebuild it as well ... I've rebuilt a few connectors on my MJ and my XJ using parts from better condition harnesses.

GM/Delphi Weather Pack is what he is referring to.  You can buy indidivual pins and connectors from NAPA.  I re-wired and pinned my TPS when I was going through my engine wiring harness.  Most of the electrical connectors in these trucks are GM Weather Pack.

Being what looks like an 8 pin, there won't be a similar GM/Delphi style weather pack, but you could run two 4 pin connectors in it's place, or go to the JY and get a good one from another vehicle as suggested.

Wiring it directly with no connector is something you would probably regret down the road, if you ever had to replace your header panel for instance.

Mine looked just like yours.  I rebuilt it with pieces from the junkyard.  I even found a harness that had factory fog light wiring in it.  Just got the complete "lights" end of the harness, plugged it in, and put the switch in the dash.  Then replaced the bad pins in the "truck" end of the harness.

If you don't feel like rebuilding your factory connector, if you look around at some later model cars for 20 minutes, you will probably find a high quality connector with at least 8 wires in it.  Cut it out leaving about 6" of wiring on both sides and splice that in.

Nah I'm not going to wire directly I will add some kind of quick connector male and female for each wire separately for the time being so I can get her to the New house hopefully on tuesday then I can work on her every day of the week! ahhh comanche Bliss
