Clutch master/slave for AX15 swap

Recommended Posts

Getting the parts together for the AX15 install.  The AX came from a '98 XJ, so it is ext slave.  What have others done for the clutch hydraulic conversion?  My choices are to purchase a pre-bled master/slave system.  Rockauto sells some for around $125.  Or I can get just a slave and hydraulic line for about the same price as the whole system, and keep the master cylinder that I have.

The problem with the second option is that I don't know the bore size on the master, so I don't know what bore size slave to get.

I used a pre-bled setup.  It saves quite a bit of time.  The only thing to be aware of is you may have to shave a bit off of the rod end that connects to the pedal so you can feed the cotter pin in completely.  I had to take about 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch off of mine.

When I did the late model external conversion in my '86 2.5 with a YJ AX5, I pieced together the clutch hydrologic system from various NEW parts (slave, master, hydrologic hose). The cost was significantly less than the pre bled systems and I have piece of mind knowing exactly what fluid is in there. Bleeding the system took about 15 minutes and has been trouble free since.
