jimoshel
Neighbor got a 2004 Dakota he's trying to pawn off on me. 3.1, auto 4WD.I see him driving it every so often so it does run.He started out at $600 and so far I've got him down to $400. I've heard stories that some of those engines aren't to reliable but I don't remember which ones. Anybody got any opinions, comments on that particular engine? :dunno:
Wiggilez
i've never heard of a 3.1, but the 3.9 in my has been reliable for just shy of 200,000km so far.
shelbyluvv
It has to be a 3.7 if it's a V6 or a 4.7 if it's a V8. I'm not getting into the 3./4.7 debate. I like them, others don't. Mine were dependable and still are, others say they suck. Good luck!
Incommando
I had 120,000 trouble free miles out of my 3.7. Two buddies have almost 200K. But it seems that they must have regular oil changes in my observation. These engines are fairly expensive to both re-build or buy used so buying one for the price of scrapping the truck might concern me if I planned on keeping it. jimoshel
Got enough trucks already. My plan was fixing it up and flipping it, or, pull the parts neccesary for a MJ 2 to 4WD conversion.

jimoshel
From the Dakota for an MJ? Yep. Anyway went over and looked at it. It is a 3.7. The truck is solid, very nice condition. He just hasn't taken care of it and I think the engine just needs a good flushing and oil change. Offered him $400. We'll see.
