Project 89 Sport

Recommended Posts

Project 89 short bed ! This was the adds picture . I bought it for 600 bucks and drove it home! I changed plug wires and gave it the tuneup it desperately needed and she ran like a top! I drove her 2000 miles .There is the typical floor pan rust and that's it as far as I can tell. It has the 4 cylinder and Asian 4.

I brought home and washed! I have recently just taken bench out and added oem buckets and console. I will take picts later..There tan and interior is gray so kinda bites but I paid 80 bucks for the seats and bumper I wanted and etc.. so I will make it work. My plans are rubicon wheels 16inch. I plan to add 1997 up front grill and fenders. I also plan to drive the smack out of it!! It has 130000 miles and (was))))clean clean oil! I am also adding 1 inch front coil spacers. New glass front window! Paint! Etc.!

Like I said 2000 miles and I checked oil religiously and noticed white showing up after a trip to Carthage Mo! Head gasket leak no big deal and easy fix really but kinda bites. I tore her apart which I love the ease of this little engine and decided for the price I would just buy a new head which I have now and I'm basically putting in new valves and seals and springs and a pro max head! Plus I'm adding a new radiator as the old leaks very little but needs replaced! Plan is mid January to have her on the road again as I have my wife's jeep to finish! I will post picts of head when complete!

OK well I have to wait for my valve train so I thought I would begin to tackle this ugly headliner ..I got some info from a few fellow jeeps on here and am pulling it out to redo, not sure how I want this done yet but will see.

Well been busy on the other jeep but had time to go to salvage yard as I needed a rear tailight for cherokee.. I also scored this a 1997-up header panel for 15 bcks..it has a Crack and was after market but is the fiberglass not plastic... I will have to do a little glass work on it but I'm doing my headliner pretty soon anyhow. I also got a overhead console from a Buick mini van for 10bcks! I'm going to give this a whirl as I have read a post from another member who looks to had success making a nice overhead console!

Well got some time to lay a little glass and get this ugly liner straightened up a little. ..first I brushed it yesterday with 2 bottles of watered down Elmer glue and let that dry.. today I put resin all over it and glass patches over huge hole.. and the other spot. This is going to take time so can't rush!!

Well I worked on the liner this weekend somewhat and formed a console peice etc.. I also took front fender drivers side off and front panel to prepare for 97 conversion. . I will be installing all new head and etc this week or weekend and new radiator. Then start to finish front end and clutch master cylinder.

Making small progress on headliner..I used 2 peices of foam board I had laying around..by using 2 peices I could bend it without pulling on liner as much.. I sanded peices down and now have glued them to liner with construction adhesive..I put more Elmer allover that and next us fiberglass it to liner. Then on and on and on !

Off ebay Radiator single row all aluminum paid 116 ttd. SILLA. BRAND...FROM CLASSIC RADIATORS. Will see if it holds up..have a limited lifetime warranty so they say...I had thought about the 4.0 swap with electric fans but then u change battery, electric etc etc.. .... I want to keep it fairly simple and mostly stock.

Also New passenger fender came in and I was very pleased with fitment and quality. ..the salvage yards around here think they have gold ..I guy told me 85.00 a fender and wouldn't budge. I thought to take a trip to tulsa if they had a few but decided to spend 76 ttd and screw it!
