Comanche County
I've been grabbing odd or unique carburetors off of old cars I see in the JY lately. Practically every car in the yards now are injected and for some reason I guess I get nostalgic tinkering with em or just looking at em in my garage (among all my other junk). I've got a Carter WE from a 50' Studebaker Champion, A carter WO, some kind of Weber carb (I believe) from a 60ish VW Type 3 fastback, a slant 6 carb, a couple of autolites, a couple of BBDs, a 4350 from a 76' Lincoln. I have no need for em, got most of em on a %50 off weekend. Wish I still had the Autolite 4100 that came on my 65' mustang, I was 18 and tossed it for a dumb @$$ Holley. Anyway, these Studebakers showed up a week or two ago, I wanted to grab all the carbs especially the one off the Silver Hawk (??) in the foreground, it had an odd looking 4bbl. But today I looked again, and someone has pulled the engines out of the first three cars. Only one left now. I might go back and get it. I know it doesn't make sense to have a bunch of random car parts that will most likely never get used again but I figure if my kids ever really tick me off I'll leave my life insurance to charity and the kids can just have my carburetor collection. :brows:
HOrnbrod
The Silver Hawk carb might have been a Carter AFB used with the Paxton superchargers. Swapping the Paxton, carb, and manifold over to the Hawks 259/289 V8 was a pretty common upgrade. I had a 63 Avanti R2 years ago with the Paxton, and the Carter AFB carb built for the Paxton superchargers did not look like a non-supercharged Carter AFB carb at all. It was odd looking.......... Comanche County
Yeah could've been one of those supercharged carbs, didn't resemble an AFB/Eddy style carb at all.
Pete M
you should do something with that collection. maybe mount them to a board and hang that on the wall as garage art. that'd clear up some shelf space. :D
jimoshel
You want to see a collection of worthless parts, drop by my place sometime. I'm the original pack rat and never, but never throw anything away that MIGHT be useable some day. Still have the spark plugs I swapped out of a '38 Buick back in 1950. As well as the hood ornament and grill. Hey....Who knows. They might start making '38 Buicks again and and when they do I'll have a head start. :brows: Got a nice collection of 1934-41 Chevy hood ornaments. Hey. They might be good for someting, someday. Don't have no Datsun stuff but do have the trip carb set up from a 1962 Austin Healy 3000. One of the few cars, trucks, I purchased new off the dealers show room. Saw an Austin Healy 3000 this morning when we were at breakfast. Red/orange, wire wheels, looked good. Then in the afternoon, we walked past a parked Aston-Martin in Ramona. While I was gawking at it, Anita ask me what I was looking at, so I told her, "an Aston-Martin" She said, "Oh that is the second one today." Had to tell her the first one was an Austin Healy and the second one was an Aston Martin, as in James Bond.
