column shifter cable removal

I'm doing the 96 brake booster upgrade and i can't seem to get the shifter cable off the bracket how do you do it without breaking it??

If I remember correctly you have to just pull on it, its got a "ball socket" that just needs to be popped off similar to the one on the throttle linkage.

Why do you need to mess with the column shift cable? I did the 96 master/booster swap and just slipped everything under the cable. No problem. Are you using the 1/4" spacer plate between the firewall and booster?

yes on spacer... the pop off i got i was trying to remove the piece from the bracket beside it. i figured it out got everything switched over and lines in just waiting to bleed them in the morning. this isn't the first time ive done this the cable isn't there on my xj. i got the nuts off i just didn't want to break the cable seeing that i couldn't get a replacement today. not a bad upgrade for 35 bucks for everything.

I did not have to mess with the cable when I did the same upgrade on my column shift truck.

I think he was talking about the cable bracket inside the cab. I had to remove my cable from the shifter to get to one of the nuts holding the booster on.

:yeah that:  finished now. i couldn't get a wrench or a crows foot or socket on the 2 bottom ones. but i got it now.

:agree:  I had trouble with the one at the very bottom towards the outside on mine.
