bingles
I am looking at buying an '88 Commanche and want to know what all I need to be looking out for when purchasing. What will I be doing with it? The plan is to build a street-able weekend warrior...something along the lines of 5" lift on 35s. I plan to wheel it. What I know about it from the ad and owner so far... It's a 4.0 and runs good 5 speed manual Body is in good shape with no rust spots (highly unlikely, but we'll see) 2 wheel drive Needs minor TLC - rip in seat and turn signals don't work...nothing major Now all of this of course needs to be confirmed, but what do y'all think so far? Is it a good base to start from you think? They're asking for $1,200. Any help in the matter would be appreciated!
HOrnbrod
WHERE are you located? Any pics in the ad? Comanche, not Commanche.

xjrev10
Those are extremely $#!&ty pics for someone to forward to a potential buyer. $700 tops. Just for that reason.

Haha Thanks, I thought they were pretty bad too! He is about 35 minutes from me, so I may just go check it out and cut my losses if its no good. Anything in particular to look out for when checking it out? I own a '00 XJ and am familiar with what to look for on those and vehicles general, but wasn't if the MJ had anything in particular that is important to check out. Dillithium
Certain Comanche specific items you'll want to work/be in one piece: Taillights(Expensive and rare!) Fuel sending unit(Make sure it reads) Cab corners(rust) and B pillar lights(also kinda rare, though aftermarket options are available) Rear window(No known official replacement) That's it really. The rest is the same as most jeeps, if I were you, I'd like at 89+ just so you get an AX15 transmission instead of the BA10. But perhaps this one is still working properly. yxmj
Like any Jeep......crawl under it...look for rust or repairs Even if the floor pans look good from underneath see if you can lift the mat or carpet and have a look at them on the inside. You don't list mileage ...... so I would say $1000 top end ( that would be based on an on site inspection and me wanting it bad)
