Renix headers/custom headers

but arn't the ports different? I don't really have a problem with the flange, my exhaust dude can take care of that

I bought a Clifford header back in 2002. It came with the fitting for EGR and O2 (Renix motor). Kind of a pain to install though. Still on and working good. Got the whole exhaust system done also. Hi flow cat and 2 1/2 tubing.

sheeeeetttttt, I remember that website now! I found that back when I was first looking at headers but was too stupid and poor to buy the good one and settled for the pacesetter. Ive learned my lesson lol. Thanks for posting that

IDK.......

I'm more familiar with the 2.5s, they have not changed from '84 through '02.

Here's mine, I'm using a '98 block and head with Renix and I'm currently converting a late model intake to Renix.

I got one from toyosport out of the United

Kingdom . It does not have the bung for the EGR tube or O2 sensor . It is polished stainless . My truck is in storage or else I could send you some pics .

did they custom make it for you?

No. It was already made and I just purchased it on ebay and welded the O2 bung in . I looked at the invoice and found no part number .

Clifford is still around in SoCal. The part # I bought was 57-2000. The one in the link is a little different but you could call them if interested.

I emailed him about the 57-2000, and he said it would fit an 89 4.0 perfectly. The description says it fits 87-05 4.0s, which i thought was odd. The guy said that the only thing that changed between the heads was that the intake ports moved upwards in the later years. I'm not sure what to think now

The manifolds mount up the same, the difference between the two is EGR port, O2 bung location and output angle.

Renix has EGR, and O2 on the manifold with a straight down output.

HO has no EGR, O2 bung is on the down pipe not the manifold, and has a 45 degree back output angle.

To make the later manifold work on the Renix you need to change the angle on the downpipe, and if needed add a O2 bung (if not on manifold). The flange mount is the same. O2 sensor wiring has enough slack to reach if routed correctly.

They moved the ports, but did not change the port relation AFAIK renix exhaust ports are the same as HO, it's the intake ports that moved, but all bolt and stud locations are the same. Even then it was only 1/8" of difference.

Just read the description of the Clifford header, you would need the Y-pipe (09-0240) for it, and adapt the stock exhaust to that. Add any bugs into the Y-pipe and call it done.

That makes sense, to be honest I didnt even think about the angle of the output pipe(s). I'm pretty confident in the exhaust guy I found, and I'm sure he could make the angle work. Right now I have the pacesetter header, which has a y pipe and a intermediate pipe?, that connects the y pipe to the cat. That pipe had a bung in it for the O2, And I relocated it there. I would imagine he could handle the egr bung/tube as well. Pretty sure he would have to fab up a new tube to fit the new header properly. I don't even know if the clifford has any bungs, it has no picture and dosen't mention it in the description.

Recently found "aFe power" makes headers for the 4.0 and 2.5. I'm saving up for the 2.5 version now and hopefully will be able to get one for my future build pretty soon. Might be another brand for you to look at.

I just checked them out, looks like nice stuff. For now I think I like the clifford option because of the dual outlet. That way I know he can get a pipe to match up to it. However I would actually prefer a single outlet for clearance with the drive shaft. I don't do any crazy wheeling but I have hit my current y pipe on a few occasions. I will probably call him tomorrow and see what he says

Will those afe headers work with my renix without any clearance issues, it only list it as applicable for YJ/TJ and I don't know enough about them to know for sure they will work with no issue
