most likely a puegot BA 10/5...its an ok tranny...mine had 200K b4 it quit and my new one is 6mnths old and i run synthetic and it shifts great....

 

which synthetic are you using? I was thinkning about trying Royal Purple's Synchromax in mine. I used generic napa GL3 and the shifting is not so good.

It'll be a BA10/5 unless it has been swapped - which is possible but not likely.

 

 

 

 

They're not a bad tranny, but are entirely unable to hold up to the torque output of the 4.0. If you find one that has been babied, it'll last as long as the engine. But who does that? So normally they start dropping gears at inoppertune times.

Yeah, the one you're looking for is the AX-15. They aren't nearly as plentiful as the AW4 autos, but they are solid transmissions. Search around on here and you'll find a bunch of info and links on swaping one into your truck. For now- I'm running a Poogoo as well- some good synthetic works wonders (I'm running Mobil One too).

...my BA10 has 188k miles and a new 4.0 with 140k miles and i slam the gears all the time, hasnt $#!& yet jamminz.gif (have spare tranny waiting for that day or before)

 

i run castrol full-synthetic gear oil

 

i agree TOTALLY cleaned up the feel of the gears
