dracon79
I have an 88 jeep comanche with a 4.0 and a 5 speed transmission. I was wondering what the model was on it? A peugot something?

I was thinkning about trying Royal Purple's Synchromax in mine. I used generic napa GL3 and the shifting is not so good.
offroader461
i think its MOBIL 1 80W-90 full synthetic..it was expensive but i think worth it...totally changed the feel of shifting through the gears
DirtyComanche
It'll be a BA10/5 unless it has been swapped - which is possible but not likely. They're not a bad tranny, but are entirely unable to hold up to the torque output of the 4.0. If you find one that has been babied, it'll last as long as the engine. But who does that? So normally they start dropping gears at inoppertune times.
dracon79
is there a better 5 speed tranny I can swap out?
ChiefJosh
is there a better 5 speed tranny I can swap out? Yeah, the one you're looking for is the AX-15. They aren't nearly as plentiful as the AW4 autos, but they are solid transmissions. Search around on here and you'll find a bunch of info and links on swaping one into your truck. For now- I'm running a Poogoo as well- some good synthetic works wonders (I'm running Mobil One too).

feerocknok
So, for manual trannies, you can just swap from the standard fluid to synthetic? I've heard dozens of times that it burns up autos.
