'97+ front end with '84-'96 fenders?
ChiefJosh replied to feerocknok's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The first one is probably the best pic of what you're looking for. My front fenders had been tweaked a bit before I bought it (minor fender-bender), but I didn't feel like messing with redoing the whole front end. I have too much other more pressing stuff to replace. Like the paint. My guess is that the top, outside corner of that new front clip sticks up at most 1/4" higher than the bevel of that fender, but that's only because the clip is round and the fender has the flat bevel on it. If you didn't want to replace fenders, you could just slap some bondo on the corner of that fender and blend/fade it over 6" or so to go from the bevel and build up to meet the corner of the clip. That's what I was planning on doing, basically because the rest of my Chief's body isn't perfect. Can't help ya with the flares though. I used the 97+ clip, but stuck with the 96- bumper and end caps, then went with TJ flares, though you could stay with the 96- flares, I think as long as you're running less than a 33" tire, though I can't confirm that. I would say, if it's a trail rig- don't swap the fenders. If you're planning on washing and waxing this thing on a regular basis- then you might want to think about doing it. -
Sorry, but I think that looks disgusting :ack:

Shock length totally depends on where your lower shock mounts are located... i don't remember what mine are, i think they're a bit long anyway.

Do you have a direct link to the Pirate Renix manual, I've never been on that site, I don't know where to begin looking......

Oh, and check your intake manifold bolts, as well as for leaks. Spray some carb cleaner around the manifold, and if the idle fluctuates you either need to tighten those bolts good and/or replace the gasket. One of my bolts was finger-loose. I tightened it up and my idle dropped about 1000rpms!

Check out this thread over on NAXJA, it might be of some help to you, it's helped me- http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.p ... idle+renix fiatslug87- Do you know for sure that the TPS setting is different for manual and auto? My Chilton's book doesn't differentiate, not that I believe that over the Renix book.... Are you running your 5spd at the .17 setting?

Topped off this morning at 2.97 Drove by this afternoon- up to 3.02

That totally depends on what type of lift. We need some specifics to give you an accurate answer. Most likely, yes. If you are talking about the RockyRoad SOA 5" Ebay kit, then the answer is a little trickier.

Yeah, the batch that I brewed, and a lot of the small quantity batches, because they are not pasteurized or over-filtered, have a little bit of sediment on the bottom of the bottle. Not much, but a little. I find that if I pour the bottle out into a glass, the sediment stays in the bottle. If I walk around with the bottle in hand, some of it gets worked up into the beer. I don't notice it, as it's very fine sediment, but I'd prefer it not be there. I'm working on a batch of hard cider as we speak. Cider is a lot longer of a process than beer. Beer goes from brew kettle to glass in 3-4 weeks. I bought this cider in November, it's been fermenting and settling since then. I'm going to bottle it this week, and it should be ready to drink in another 2-3 months. The guys at the brew shop said the trick is, that the longer I wait the better it'll taste- I think that'll be hard to do, I've already waited longer than I expected...

Yep - Rusty's sells them, though I'm not sure if they make them or not. Here they are: http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.m ... _Code=BODY They've got 6" and 8" bulge fronts, as well as rear bedsides

The other Chief (Getting it ready for paint)

Welcome to the Comanche Chief Club! -
Pete that is amazing! So, uh, what brand do you prefer?....... That is, by the way, a fantastic idea.

Just be sure it has the curved seat rails- not ALL XJ seats will work. There's another thread around here somewhere with a great diagram of what seat brackets and seat mounts Jeep used over the years. Check that out and use it as a reference. I'll see if I can find it for ya- Edit: here it is: http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopi ... =seat+swap

Yeah, the one you're looking for is the AX-15. They aren't nearly as plentiful as the AW4 autos, but they are solid transmissions. Search around on here and you'll find a bunch of info and links on swaping one into your truck. For now- I'm running a Poogoo as well- some good synthetic works wonders (I'm running Mobil One too).

Image Not Found Who's rig is this? Is this your's Dirty? Not much up-travel with those bumpstops huh? And yeah, the rust is brutal and I'm not even in the worst of it. I don't know if "fighting" is the best word though, it's more like living with it- there's not much to be done to fight it. Except keep it off the road all year round.....

That's better.....your truck looks great- I think your 30 foot paint job looks better than mine does. I like the look of the 35's, it's crazy that you fit them with 3" of lift, that seems like it shouldn't be possible. Did you get the oil problems ironed out? Good luck with the SOA, it's a good project

:redX: Pic no worky.

Mine's got about 175k, so it's not quite a fresh motor - though next to your 240k, it's still pretty young....

How many miles do you guys who run sythetic get between changes? I've heard between 3k and 7k, but I want to know what you guys think-

I'd have to go with the header...... That is about the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I think they both look bad.

Jeff- that'd be great, if I wasn't leaving next weekend to be gone for the summer! That's part of why I need to finish it off, I (me and the wifey) am going up to upstate NY to work at a camp for the summer, and we're moving out of our apartment, so nothing perishable can go storage. Do you come up this way often? We'll be back in the fall, mid-August-ish. I'd love to take you up on that

Dirty, that's what I was worried about when I decided to try this. What I didn't want was to pass a bottle to my buddy, and have him say, "Whoa, what is this stuff? What'd you do, brew it yourself????" Mine turned out really good. If nothing else- it's the best $12 case I've ever bought
