Ok I trying to do the gauge swap to a full cluster from the dummy lights. My problem is that the plastic connector piece will not fit the new gauges. I do not know what make or model they were from. The piece fits over the metal picec but will not lock down. Do I need to buy a new speedometer cable?

Also one other problem. When I hooked up the gauges the oil pressure maxed out. I did the go/no go test and when I hook a ground into the end, the guague came back some but did not zero out. Does this mean I have a short somewhere in the wire? If I do have a short, can I just cut the old wire off and run new wire?

You need to buy an oil pressure switch for gauges and also a water temp sensor for the gauge for your year mj . Depending on what cluster(s)you have you might be able to swap speedos or you'll have to get another cable .

Allready have done that.  Temp and oil sensors.  The temp works with any problem but I can not get the oil to work correctly.

Check your grounds . I think one of the grounds at the oil dipstick tube is the typical problem for that. Read cruisers ground refreshening .

Did the grounds already and part number is from autozone PS133

There are 3 different speedo cables for the '86-'9? speedometers. The transmission end is the same for all 3. The end going into the speedo is different. Not sure but I believe the '86 back is one type. The '87-'88 is another and the '91 up is different.not sure where the '90 fits in.  You can either swap the speedo head, using the original that came out of the dash. Or get the correct cable.on e that matches the speedo head.
