Problem:

No brake lights. No rear turn signals.

Known:

Fuses OK

Bulbs OK

Tail lights OK

Front turn signals OK

Rear light chassis ground OK

89 MJ

Any ideas?

Thanks.

What has me stumped is the fact that both left and right sides are affected, while the tail lights and backup lights work on both sides.

2 different circuits in play.

Look up under the dash/steering column and see if a long white or blue connector with a ton of wires isn't partially disconnected.

The brake lights and turn signals share the same wiring.

They also share the turn signal/hazard switch up in the column along with a few connectors.

Wiggle the hazard knob in and out and see what happens. But, don't ignore the connector previously mentioned.

I just checked that connector (black in this case). I disconnected then reconnected and still have the same problem.

Okay, taking Cruiser's lead I found another potential problem connector (C159) on the schematic. It connects the chassis harness to the tail light harness. I found it tucked up under the bed behind the drivers s ide wheel well. The PO had ..ahem ... rigged a trailer connector on the wiring and the corrosion had taken it's toll. I re-did all the wiring and everything is good.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Cruiser, your suggestion got me thinking about connectors being potential problem areas. Thanks again.

Well glad you figured out the problem as I just had the same problem. PO rigged a trailer light up also and had to figure out that mess.
