VolsJK
So needing some advice on what products I need to get. Plan on fabbing pipe myself, but need some guidance. The exhaust from headers back is absolutely falling apart. 92 shortbed 5 spd 4.0 HO. already have new head and gasket from a 97+ (i think, a friend just started giving me stuff lol) manifold: Cat: Muffler: and CAI while we're at it: I want this setup to be NICE. Even show me a full kit. I'm not coming up with much.
88ComancheMitch
Buy a apn header, use your current downpipe. Single in dual out. Id take a picture of mine, but it's still ugly. I think it was 99+ out something they went to a 2 piece exhaust manifold. You could use that to do true duals all the way back. But I'm really not sure that a 4.0 is really worth having duals. Unless you're rubbing some forced induction I don't see a cost/benefit to justify it.
88ComancheMitch
Also, if you're really looking into it, you could do a 99+ intake manifold swap. Requires some knowledge to do. Nothing that can't be find here or other jeep/xj websites. I did it to my 98 motor in my Comanche. Gave me quite a bit more throttle response and butt dyno power. No real mpg yet, but still working on o2 sensors/and a/f ratio gauge.

Jeep Driver
Vols....... are you in TN? You'll get away with no cat. I had a shop fab me a nice set up for $180 from the cat flange back......down pipe might have cost me another $30 but mine is good. For $210 it ain't worth fabbing an exhaust. Just find a good shop that will give you what you want. Image Not Found

1987Comanche
It might be worth checking the pull-a-part to see if there are any Comanches. I pulled the complete cat back exhaust from a SWB Renix truck and had to cut, reposition, and lengthen the hangers on the system to make it work. The bends and length were correct for the HO truck. It required some work but I picked up the whole system for $30.

Wanting one for the rear as well. looks like a stock front XJ sway bar. But I'm wrong.
benjy_26
Just wondering, but what's the reasoning behind a dual exhaust on an inline engine? I've seen more and more vehicles with that kind of set up lately.
Incommando
Just wondering, but what's the reasoning behind a dual exhaust on an inline engine? I've seen more and more vehicles with that kind of set up lately. Sound. A split manifold with true duals sounds neat to those that like it. I ran a piece of 2.5" pipe off of the cat flange. That runs into a thrush welded turbo muffler and then I used a 2.5" 45* turn down right before the rear axle. I get compliments on it regularly and more than one person has asked if I swapped in a V8 after hearing it at idle. I have less than $50 in it. It's still in great shape, just everything else is falling apart ha. Thanks

I've seen more and more vehicles with that kind of set up lately. It has a very nice sound to it. And it no longer sounds like a moped or a V6 wannabe.
