ownedueasy Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Ok I'm converting my 92,2.5, 5 speed 2wd to 4wd and was wondering if I'll have to cut my drive shaft or not? I think the current length is 58.5 inches long
onlyinajeep726 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Yes, you will have to. Swap the drivetrain and then measure the length of the drive shaft needed, take your current one to Fleetpride or another reputable shop and have them cut it down.
Incommando Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I just went through this. The 2wd d.s. is two pieces and use a rubber sleeve between them. This makes them difficult to shorten and rebalance especially if the rubber has deteriorated. I bought a junkyard shaft with 1310 yokes for cheap and had that shortened and rebalanced.
onlyinajeep726 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 The 2wd d.s. is two pieces and use a rubber sleeve between them. I was not aware of that. Thanks for clarifying. Do you happen to have a picture of a 2WD drive shaft?

Do you happen to have a picture of a 2WD drive shaft? I have a 2wd shaft I can take a pic of and send it to you . Once everything is in place measure to get your shaft length . And if you're going to put a lift on your truck put that on before you do the shaft . I had my 2wd shaft shortened with no issues . They took all that rubber crap out , balanced it and put new joints in it for @ 100 bucks .

Incommando Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Thanks for sending him the pic. I don't have one.
Strokermjcomanche Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 No problem . Just so happens I have a spare shaft that I keep around for future projects .
