Tyrone the work truck

Recommended Posts

I picked this up a few weeks ago but wasn't sure what direction i was going to go with it, as of now I figure I'll fix this little base model 88 swb into a nice little DD/work truck.

So far I've just done the standard new-to-me car procedure; drain and refill of all fluids/checking of other fluids. Drained about 1 and a half small coffee cans of oil out of the engine, and used the can of seafoam I've had for about 4 years. It helped even out my idle but I still call it snake oil, I'd just as soon do a water mist into the intake than buy a can of the stuff again.

It was originally a silver truck, shame they went with black. One PO painted the red interior yellow, and then the next owner painted it black, over the yellow, so now its patchy yellow/black inside. Oh and the company that owned it made this funky flat tailgate for advertising and did a latch delete on it.

Right now its waiting for me to do brake lines. one day off a week while working two jobs means I always get lots of work done every week. :fs2:

(the HO head is for my chief)

Brake lines ran and bled, did the prop valve bypass as per eagles instructions, changed the air filter and spark plugs/dizzy.

Took her for a test drive and then was like oh hell i forgot the u-joint. (I have a bearingless cap on the driveshaft just so i could move it around the yard)

So far so good, sittin pretty on turbines w/ some all terrains.

I noted little pimples on my serp belt so I think that means I need to loosen it up some.

I have the idiot light cluster so either It's got good oil pressure and is running cool or the lights don't work.

Recently I diagnosed my intermittent heater issues (fan would spin from 3 seconds to 5 minutes and then just quit). I wound up having to unplug the fan switch, plug it back in and jiggle it. Yep.

Today I'm going to grab some of that exhaust wrap stuff to quick patch a nasty leak I have and I also am going to do the manifold gasket if I can get the trailers moved out of the way of the tent.

I cannot remember If I ever did this or not. It's kind of bothering me now.

So parts stores are closed on thanksgiving.

I fixed my washer fluid sprayer by the very in-depth procedure of 'huh, that connector matches the one thats already plugged in, I'll swap them' and then it working.

Filled the washer fluid using the tank from the other jeep.

And tested the sunpro tach, works fine but the loom is too short so I'll have to extend it. and I'm not sure how I want to go about tapping into the negative side of the ignition coil just yet.

Made a run up to Harrys U-pull in Hazleton PA, Got some good stuff.

(nabbed the intake pipe for my honda, figured why not)

Also picked up an ashtray without holes in it (PO drilled holes in it ???) a tailgate, a Cherokee owners manual and I think thats it. Had I not been so tired I would of gotten a bunch of burgundy interior parts out of this one cherokee but wasn't that motivated after being there for 5 hours.

Took her in the woods a few days ago, just a mild trail out of boredom. Thinking about getting an LSD for it.

Long time no post.

Lets see.

Realized wheelbarrows are stupid to use when you've got a truck.

Took a picture in the snow.

Took a picture of it clean.

Ordered and installed a 21'' LED lightbar ($60 w/ shipping)

Installed the clock I picked up in december, which happened to be the right style, also 'upgraded' to the woodgrain bezel.

Still need to aim the light bar but other than that shes all set.

Also removed my AC components, once I pick up a tarus fan and delete the mech fan I'll remove the compressor as well.

Got some goodies at the junkyard over the weekend, Chrome mirrors, Vent windows, laredo door panels, another foglight switch, 2 turbine center caps, chrome headlight/marker bezels, and a chrome grill.

I had those wonky door mount base model mirrors, thankfully whoever painted the truck black didnt take the mirrors off so I have these unsightly silver rectangles now.

I may throw the chrome bumper I have on it too.

Got new tires a little while ago.

Next is figuring out if i can easily upgrade the front brakes (have the rotor style with the wheel bearings in them)

Also this happened on a trip to PA.

Swapped my summers out last night.

and made a mom-angering tire storage pile in my room

Got a few issues that popped up recently, need to add some new exhaust hangers and also need to figure out why my dome fuse is blowing, which is also causing my sunpro tach to stop getting power from the 12v port on my fuse block.
