Play In Tilt Wheel

guys, my tilt steering wheel has a lot of play in it. like an inch each way. it still functions as it should but wtf. my so has been driving it and he's inexperianced so i don't know if it was a gradual thing or came on all at once. any ideas? it's not the steering u joint. that's nice and tight. it's in the tilt mechanism.

There are 4 bolts down inside that come loose and need to be tightened down. There should be some links on here or search for any 80`s gm steering column. Mine is the same way bought the tools a year ago and have not done it yet.

I've done a bunch of the Tilt Column Repairs.

They are not too difficult, just frustrating, when you don't have the Correct tools.

I Still Swear by having a Chilton Manual.

Here is the Only Advise I can give you,

Look into it, before you start and Get the Correct Tools!!

 i had the same thing and it was 4 bolts ( or 2, can't remember) through a bracket that is on interior side of firewall.  the werent even there when i got the grey mj and the whell would easily move about an inch or so left and right.   super easy fix.
