Fender Trimming.....?

I'm looking to trim my fenders. Should I trace around the fender flares, take off the flares, and the cut? Or is there some kind of line to follow. Any input will be much appreciated. Pictures would be nice too.

When I did the comanche in the front I already had the flares off so I trimmed right at the lip....

The rear is pretty much cut and fold....

If you wind up looking for flares to cover wider tires or just want that look you can use 4 rear TJ flares pretty nicely. My bed had rust above the fender mount line that I needed to cut off so my cuts are pretty high:

In the rear it's the exterior bedside connects to the inner fender well sheet metal...once you cut like in the link above you fold inside the wheel well...like you see in some of the pics or mine...
