88whitemanche
What's up guys So this morning when I got into the truck the key didn't want to turn all the way to try to start the truck it would stop right before that point... This morning pretty much sucked I finally got it going then I went to get coffee and the same routine again! Finally got on the hwy and it shut off on me completely and before I can even try to diagnose why it did that the lock cylinder did the same thing again.... When I finally got it going about 20minutes later the key was way to forward and the starter was on with the rotation of the engine and I hauled tail to work... Luckily I know which relays to take out because the truck was just running with the key stuck in the on the crank position....I'm at work now can anyone tell me what it can be? So when I'm on break I can go check it out....thanks in advance
onlyinajeep726
Hope you didn't burn up your starter driving it like that... Replace the ignition lock cylinder... probably just went bad after all these years. 91Pioneer
It could be the rod going down to the ignition switch that's the problem, after I replaced my ignition cylinder the truck would not start, and I needed to adjust that on the column. If it's not adjusted correctly the key position does not align with what you expect. Your problem will either be the ignition cylinder needs replacement or the ignition switch needs adjustment. Or both.
tugalo
my key did the same. I finally got to a locksmith and he removed the cylinder and rebuilt it for $35. After watching him do it, i am not sure i would want to try it at home.
91Pioneer
You can buy a brand new ignition lock cylinder for $25 or less.
88whitemanche
Thanks guys...I tore into it yesterday...steering wheel puller wasn't cutting it....it's was bending the bolts that go into the mounting plate... So I called a locksmith and they'll be coming today to replace the whole cylinder....
