Zenobian_84
Got my problems with the heater core sorted out it seems. The truck always had a lifter tick, but now it has gotten more noticeable, although I have yet to drive it to see if everything is still working as well as when it was parked. I believe it's coming from the first cylinder. For those of you who've done a complete lifter change on a 2.5, how in-depth is it? Any sets of lifters you'd specifically recommend? Also, on a sort of related note, the engine seems to have a slight shimmy back and forth (side to side) while it runs. Nothing terrible that affects how it sits or runs, but it is noticeable as well. I was keen on getting the motor mounts replaced last year, but budget constraints put it on a back burner. Is this shimmy an indication of worn out mounts? yxmj
Just went through this with a TJ......have a read and watch the video http://www.wranglerforum.com/f210/jeep-2-5l-ticking-noise-431754.html http://youtu.be/5A0q8mg1UXM
88whitemanche
The shimmy can be motor mounts. $10 mounts are over the counter and worth it...
1987Comanche
Lifters on a 2.5 are pretty easy to do as you don't have to pull the head. Get the lifter removal tool, new VCG, and some Ultra Slick assembly lube. They come out through the pushrod holes. Why the 4.0 head wasn't designed with lifter removal in mind is a question I could never figure out... I think it took 2-3 hrs to do on Meg. Mine isn't anywhere near that bad. But the lifter(s) have been ticking ever since I got the thing 3 years ago. Lifters on a 2.5 are pretty easy to do as you don't have to pull the head. Ah, I was wondering if pulling the head was involved. Sometimes I'm glad I have the little 4-banger instead of the inline 6.
