54bobby Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 guys, I want to do all new front brakes on my 87 4x4 2.5. I'm shopping rock auto and I see 2 options. 1 has hub and 1 doesn't and is listed as (first design) which am I looking for?
Strokermjcomanche Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 You need the 1st design . 2nd has the hub bearing and are later models . 203 should be in the brake pad number .
54bobby Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 I am going to get the pre loaded calipers. does it mater which ones or will they all fit both designs?
Strokermjcomanche Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 No it matters which ones you have 87-90 are the same 91 up are 477 pads I believe
Comanche County Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Been wondering this myself. I know there was a unit bearing change in 2000, but when I went to buy calipers and rotors for my 89' XJ, I checked several stores, only Advance had the calipers. The rotors were listed as 80'-88' only in every store's computer. They fit AMC cars and Jeeps with discs only through 88'. IIRC there was a knuckle change around that time where the caliper bracket bolts up differently.
Strokermjcomanche Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 It might be to 88 I'm having amnesia lol but 87 /88 is definitely a 203 base pad number
54bobby Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 well, I have the truck saved with rock auto and I'm guessing that if they say it will fit, that it will.
Rockfrog Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 It was 1989 ... the knuckle was changed to the chryco design for 1990. There were two knuckle designs .. AMC 84-89 for XJ/MJ D30s, then 90-06 for MJ/XJ/YJ/TJ D30s. Calipers matched the knuckles, and rotors matched the hubs ... so 84-89, 90-99.5, and 99.5-06 for the rotors and hubs. The 2wd axle is another beast altogether should also be noted but it only varies at the hub/rotor afaik up to 92.
