91 Pioneer Lift Help

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a 1991 MJ Pioneer, the PO installed a lift but I am not sure what it is and to be honest it looks terrible. I can tell it is add-a-leaf in the rear but one side is missing the added leaf, the front looks to be a combination of spacers with new springs. I am looking for a lift that comes with full leaf packs, since I have no idea what I really have back there, and new springs. I would like to be around 3-4.5" of lift. What would you guys recommend looking at?

Great truck I have the exact year and model and was asking this same question a few months back. After a lot of research to get 3-4.5" I come up with hellcreek springs in rear and Rubicon express springs in front with Bilsteins shocks all the way around now there are cheaper options out there, but since my truck is DD/Work/Camping rig I wanted the best lift with flex and better stance without sacrificing the drivability and ride of my truck this turned out to be a great option just ask around there are several guys on here that went with this combination and are very happy like myself I went with 3" HC in rear and 3.5" RE in front you won't be dissapointed

Just avoid Rough Country stuff. The "rough" part of the name is well earned.

Well said, just get the rear leafs from tom at HC his kits come with RC for front go in another direction for the front RE is a nice option but there are others out there that are good too.

I know to avoid Rough Country from building up my Grand Cherokee but thanks for the advice, I have decided that once I get some money in from taxes and can save up a little I will be going with the HC rears and RE front coils, not sure what I want to do for shocks yet. As much as I would love to run Bilsteins they just arent in my budget for the MJ right now

If you can find (and fund) OME coils for the front, I highly suggest you do so. They're some of the smoothest riding coils out there that still have plenty of capacity to work when loaded down and flex as well as any other spring out there.

Ome's are nice but the reason I suggest RE is the setup also rides good and with the 3" HC lift in rear the 3.5" RE in front makes the truck set level with no spacers I just didn't like the huge rake from back to front with the RC and others in the front

I have heard a lot of good things about OME so I will give them a look as well. I'm not set on anything yet just wanting to get some good ideas from people who know more about these trucks than me. I'm used to coils all around.

I'm not a fan of rake either so if I can avoid it I would like to do so, no spacers is better. I've had spacers on my ZJ and just didnt like the ride.

I've run Krawler Ready 1.5" spacers in the front of my ZJ along with the OME heavy load coils all around for about 4 years now for high speed desert stuff and the ride is superb. I first used OME shocks, but those had a tendency to boil over after hard (ab)use. I now run Bilstein's in the front and ProComp MX6 adjustables in the back with good results. A bit stiffer than the OME's, but they soak up everything I've thrown at them and are soft enough for long trips. I'_ve been eyeing JKS's ACOS system as of late as well, more for the hydro bump stop than anything, but the ability to balance out my somwhat tweaked (pass side rides a tiny bit taller than the drivers) OME's would be cool.

I ran some custom spacers on my ZJ for about a year, they were nice just didnt really like the ride quality so I would like to stick with coils and no spacers. As far as affordability the lift is going to have to wait for a little until I can get other things buttoned up on the MJ which are more important right now

mudflaps.com has some great prices on RE coils...and Free shipping. My 5.5" springs were $86/pair to my door. You can't beat that. Research the part # you want and then search them up on www.mudflaps.com

Thanks, I will definitely check them out. That is a great price, and something that I can afford now
