TheDirtyJeep401 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Does anyone know how much it (on average) would cost to turn a crank? Its an 72 AMC 304, where #1 would go, there is a slight intention like something hit it. If I end up having to have the crank turned, I was wondering what a good estimate would be. Thanks in advance.
nitroxsteve Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I can't remember how much the last one was that I had turned, but the shop should give you a price up front and they usually provide the oversized bearings to go with it. You can also call your parts store and price a reconditioned crank.
Comanche County Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Stroker time. Use a 360 or 401 crank.....check out the AMC forums for details on that. http://theamcforum.com/forum/401-crankshaft-into-a-304-block_topic5671_page1&SID=411018452aad88d28152c3d6aee699461805556.html
Jeep Driver Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I would expect to pay $150. Although its been a while.
TheDirtyJeep401 Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 don't plan on making a Stroker, I have a 401 that I am going to build up. This 304 is only going to be mild performance, for cruising mostly. Thanks for the price estimate, its what I was thinking it was somewhere in that ballpark.
Crash Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Other than a 4.0L, why would anyone want to waste money on an AMC engine? Better off with an LSx, no matter what vehicle it is for.

TheDirtyJeep401 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 I would take an AMC V-8 over a LS engine any day. Plus it would be wrong putting it in a AMC car.
